Job Title: Senior Developer Relations (DevRel)
Location: Remote/Hybrid
Company: ControlTheory
About Us:
ControlTheory is reinventing observability—making it smarter, more controlled, and AI-first. We tackle the pains faced by modern SREs—rising MTTR, exploding costs, vendor lock-in, siloed insights, and unanswered questions around root cause, service health, and capacity. As the creators of Gonzo, an open-source, real-time log analysis TUI, ControlTheory is committed to developing open standards such as OpenTelemetry and supporting the CNCF community.
ControlTheory AI-First observability distills telemetry down to the essential answers SREs require, concentrating the signal, not the noise. Backed by $5 million in seed funding from Silverton Partners, ControlTheory enables organizations to move observability into the AI era by applying agentic intelligence across the full observability supply chain.
Job Description:
We’re looking for a Senior Developer Relations Engineer to bring our message to the cloud native, Kubernetes, and SRE communities and help build up the ControlTheory community. You’ll champion AI-first, smarter observability, show how it cuts noise, reduces toil, and delivers actionable intelligence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evangelize the AI-first Observability Vision
- Clearly articulate how observability is being reinvented through intelligent automation and AI-driven insight.
- Highlight real-world value: instant, contextual, noise-free incident workflows—without dashboards, manual tuning, or complex queries.
- Create Developer-Ready Content
- Author tutorials, reference guides, sample applications, and demos emphasizing streamlined observability workflows—especially for Kubernetes and OpenTelemetry users.
- Showcase pain points (high MTTR, cost inefficiency, opaque system health), and explain how ControlTheory resolves them.
- Community Engagement & Presence
- Speak at industry events (KubeCon, KCDs, OpenTelemetry/Observability meetups, CNCF events), focusing on AI-first observability transformations.
- Facilitate workshops or webinars that demonstrate increased efficiency and clarity—no overhead, just insight.
- Act as the authentic voice of ControlTheory to the developer community across social channels.
- Own, Maintain, Promote ControlTheory Open Source Projects
- Act as a maintainer and community lead for Gonzo, our open-source real-time log analysis tool, plus additional future tools.
- Guide contributors, manage issues/PRs, write documentation, and foster a healthy open-source community around the project.
- Coordinate release cycles, community feedback, and roadmap alignment with internal engineering teams.
- Build DevRel Programs
- Launch ambassador initiatives, hands-on hackathons, or “observe smarter” challenges that emphasize how AI-native observability counters traditional deficits.
- Partner with product & marketing teams to integrate developer feedback into future capabilities and messaging.
- Measure Impact & Iterate
- Define success metrics—community engagement, content performance, developer sentiment, and spoken vs. unspoken pain points.
- Sharpen messaging and programming based on feedback and behavioral data.
